FAMILIES

We believe that what goes on in workplaces, education agencies, families and communities has very significant interactive effects on each other. The ways people think, the optimism of their actions and the ways they work with each other are reflected in all spheres of their life. So we see the often voluntary work we do with families and communities as a vital part of our overall contribution to the future of a sustainable society.

In recent years some of this activity has included:

  • developing with others, the national Parents Matter program for developing parenting skills in families
  • facilitating the implementation of a national parenting skills program in Australia
  • coordinating a pilot program to support parents from Horn of Africa refugee communities in Brisbane, through the Red Cross.
  • working with government to support community capacity building actions in Queensland
  • taking a leadership role within our national network of education centres to provide support for the reconciliation movement
  • conducting regional community consultations with the Department of Communication, Information, Planning and Local Government
  • developing the capacity to implement sustainability learning processes in schools and the community
  • initiating and coordinating the national Reworking Tomorrow network
  • conducting Brisbane workshops in leadership, learning, wellbeing and the environment.
  • conducting interpersonal skills workshops with the community
